George reports on IU’s engagement efforts in Indiana, the United States, and around the world at the IU Inc. blog.
George is a proud graduate of the IU School of Journalism who returned to work for his alma mater in 1990, after a career that included reporting for The Republic in Columbus, Indiana, the Birmingham News, and various magazines. As a reporter, he met the real-life inspiration behind Wall Street’s Gordon Gekko and musicians such as Pat Metheny. Now at IU, he writes about the extraordinary people who make the university great.
George publicizes research and other news coming out of the Kelley School of Business, the School of Journalism, and a plethora of international area studies programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to preparing news releases about major announcements and faculty research, he also handles logistical details for public events at IU.
An avid traveler, George has reported extensively about the university’s activities in China, India, and Korea and about great things he finds to eat along the way. This might explain why in his off-hours, George blogs at Barbecued Adventures. He is also the author of an award-winning book about Bloomington, Indiana.
Away from work, George loves to barbecue, travel through time via his music collection, see great films, work on his garden, and spend time with his family.
