Mary Olk joins the team as a Communications Specialist/Content Strategist. Her role is unique, as she will serve a dual role with IU Communications and IUPUI’s Division of Student Affairs to provide content for print marketing pieces, social media, the web, and JagNews. Mary’s primary focus is to tell the students’ stories at IUPUI.
For the past 5 years, Mary worked directly in student affairs at various institutions across the United States. She held roles in housing and residence life, student activities and organizations, leadership programs, fraternity and sorority life, and student health and wellness programming. She’s received awards and honors for her efforts in student activities programming and for her role as a new professional in the field from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the National Association for Campus Activities. Prior to student affairs, she worked in the Office of Media and Marketing at IU Kokomo, and she is excited to align her passions for communications and student affairs in this position.
Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and public relations from IU Kokomo, and a master’s degree in student affairs administration in higher education from Ball State University. She is thrilled to return to and work for IU.
Mary loves to travel, whether that’s visiting a new city in the U.S. or exploring a new country. Aside from planning her next adventure, you can find Mary practicing yoga, reading a book, binge watching a Netflix or HBO series, knitting, or playing her ukulele. When it’s warm outside, she enjoys taking her rescue pup, Carlene, on a walk. Recently, she was voted in as a board member to the IU Kokomo Alumni Association and is excited to give back to her alma mater.
