As assistant director of strategic communications for IUPUI, Amber Denney establishes and executes communications strategies while helping to develop engaging news and feature content across multiple platforms that aligns with the strategic plans of IUPUI and Indiana University.
Amber is a veteran journalist, having worked in the north central Indiana and Indianapolis media markets for over 20 years with experience in broadcast, print, and web journalism. She has been honored and recognized for her work by the Indiana Broadcasters Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Association of Alternative Newsmedia.
Amber is a native Hoosier, born and raised in Indianapolis. She attended the University of Indianapolis, where she studied communications and music. She continues to serve her alma mater as a member of the board of trustees. Amber also serves as the vice president of the Indianapolis Association of Black Journalists, is a past president of the Indiana Pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and most recently joined the board of directors for the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.
Most of Amber’s time outside of work is spent watching one of her three boys on a soccer or football field. During the off-season, Amber can be found reading a book in some comfortable nook, starting—but never finishing—a number of cross-stitch projects, or binge-watching her favorite TV shows.
