Mark leads the media relations and internal communications teams at IU Bloomington, IUPUI, and the IU School of Medicine. He also serves as university spokesperson and presidential communicator.
Mark has 18 years of experience as a newspaper journalist, serving as chief editor for two newspapers and as business editor for the Indianapolis Star during that time. He left the newspaper business in 2003 to serve as executive director of corporate communications at Cummins Inc., a global Fortune 200 company based in Columbus, Indiana. He joined Indiana University in 2011. He has a B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University and an MBA from Columbia University.
He spends his free time following the exploits of his 21-year-old daughter, a recent college graduate, and hanging out with his three rescue dogs. He plays golf with enthusiasm, if not skill, and is a big fan of all Hoosiers sports teams and the Indianapolis Colts. He prefers R.E.M. and Elvis Costello to Bach or Chopin, and he relies on his wife, an artist, to educate him on current trends in design.
