Mary writes news releases on basic and clinical science, education initiatives, and student activities at the IU School of Medicine, as well as a host of other topics. She also fills media requests for expert commentary and places IU’s noteworthy medical specialists and discoveries in the news.

She joined the IU Communications team in 1994, first covering the social sciences for the IU Bloomington news bureau. Before that, she spent the lion’s share of the previous 20 years working as a print journalist. She has covered just about every beat imaginable at two Indiana newspapers before joining United Press International as the bureau chief and state editor for Indiana. There, she also perfected her talents writing broadcast copy. Previously, Mary was the editor of a national magazine published by the American Legion Auxiliary National Headquarters and directed its public relations efforts.
